I agree, any company would do the same thing. They're trying to take some of the steam out of the competition by launching what they're hoping is the next Halo. It may not take any steam out of the competition, but it may give them a little extra attention and help push some units out the door. Isn't Nintendo trying to come out with the new Zelda game at their launch? There are rumors right now that MGS4 or the new Devil May Cry will be out at the PS3's launch, so this could get very inte...

To theMART's assertion that the Cell is not for gaming, I ask the below question. Why would Sony and Toshiba ask IBM to build a custom processor for them and spend billions in the process, for something that is not really applicable for gaming? I further ask you to explain the below quote on IBM's main site regarding the Cell processor: "The Cell Architecture grew from a challenge posed by Sony and Toshiba to provide power-efficient and cost-effective high-performance processing for a...

I could say no, but I may say yes eventually after some price drops. I could say no to a console that is essentially a slightly updated Gamecube that is marginally more powerful than the Xbox, but throws in a new control scheme. For the new control scheme and better designed console, they're asking you to pay $199-249. That may be enough for gamers, and myself, to pass on it.

This is in stark contrast to the Xbox 360 and PS3 which are both leaps and bounds beyond their previ...

Interesting news, looks like they are setting it up to compete directly with the Wii and PS3 launch. They better hope that it gets great reviews from IGN and all the others. It probably will as it looks like a great game. And to a below poster, no I don't blame MS at all as Sony would do the same thing. I don't think it will affect Sony at launch though as they'll still sell out of all of their launch units regardless.

Don't know why the Samsung player takes so long to load. I'm not sure if the PS3 will be that long, that's probably more of a question for a PS3 developer or Sony themselves, but fat chance that you'd get an answer at this point because of Sony's strict NDA's. I doubt it's a question anyone on here could answer either. But I'll say again that I doubt that any company would put out a gaming console that takes 40 seconds to boot up. At the least, The PS3 could/may do what the 360 does and t...

I believe you're referring to the problems with the Samsung Blu-Ray player having a softer image than it's HD-DVD counterparts. That is caused by the default settings having noise reduction on. This is something that Samsung is correcting in future chipsets, but is hoping to release a firmware update to correct this automatically, or you can just go in and change the default settings to off and it should fix it.

If this isn't what you're talking about, then I'm not sure wha...

Should have known that you'd be posting the first negative comment. Yawn.

This news of the Cell being adaptable for the scientific community is nothing new really, at least 1 1/2 years old. This particular article and instance is of course new. If anyone is interested in reading about the cell, this is an oldie but a goodie: http://www.blachford.info/c...

Also, I find it inter...

The pre-launch hype seems to be dying down and I'm personally waiting to see how it all turns out. I still think it's going to be more of a niche console that may or may not be a household item like the Ipod. I think a lot of it will depend on their marketing, Apple has mastered that with the Ipod. It will also depend on how user friendly it is. Ipod is not the best mp3 player, but it is probably the simplest, the software is simple and well integrated, etc. I have one of the 30g video I...

The past few batches of screenshots for this have looked really nice. Almost making me want to buy a PSP.

It doesn't look better than Gears of War or Resistance, but it still looks really nice. The completely Co-op thing sounds great and I'll look forward to this game as well along with you other Xbox 360 and PS3 fans.

There is a good chance of this coming to Xbox 360 and PS3. At least PS3 according to this job listing on the Crytek website http://www.crytek.com/insid...

This would be great if it were on PS3, or at least that the engine was usable on consoles as it looks spectacular.

The last sentence you said made me laugh. :) Why do you think Sony's systems have been so popular all these years? They've made their systems popular by MGS, Devil may Cry, God of War, Resident Evil (until recently), Final Fantasy, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, etc. You get the picture. Regardless, after reading the article that Achira pasted in here, it does sound pretty interesting. Looking at their page I'm wondering if this will be exc...

What game are they making? I can't look at PS3land at my work as it's blocked. If anyone cares to copy the article for here I would appreciate it.

G4 is biased towards Sony? Wow, that's a new one, I couldn't watch them during E3 for long because they were too busy sniffing Miyamoto's and Nintendo's jockstrap. I barely saw any positive coverage of Sony at E3 from G4, they loved MS and were talking (rightfully so) about Gears of War constantly. Then again, Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb get on my nerves, Keven Pereira is pretty funny and the new girl is ok.

But the $1000 Blu-ray player is just that, a player. What will be in the PS3 is just a read-only drive, the other hardware in it has to process the information and spit it out to your TV or monitor. There is a Blu-ray rewritable drive coming out soon, or it may already be out, for $500. That's not bad at all for a first generation drive, especially considering that the one in the PS3 will be read only. I hope that Sony has learned their lesson with using with using the old tray based driv...

I couldn't agree more, and I hope this trend continues with the PS3 as well. I don't want a bunch of watered down ports. EA can keep Madden, NCAA football, and all their other sports games that are mostly the same every year. And Nintendo can keep their watered down Mario derivative spinoffs that are released constantly. Granted, some are good, but those are very few and far between.

Is this part of the same gameplay videos from E3? I mean I think the game looks great, but it seems WAY too simple. Fly around, shoot bunches of planes that blow up easily, no other planes shoot at you, repeat. Maybe they hadn't integrated the opponents shooting back yet, but the gameplay seems too simple. Hopefully new gameplay builds will show it to be more advanced.

The article title is "IBM says Cell production is now going well." It doesn't mention Sony saying that yields were good. Sony doesn't care what percentage IBM is getting, as long as they're delivering the chips to the manufacturers of the consoles and that Sony gets it's contracted amounts of consoles on time and in working order.

IBM is the one stating that it is going well, meaning according to plan. This is a completely new processor design that they expected to...
